Berlin presents itself at the MIPIM Real Estate Fair in Cannes

40 hectares in the Heidestraße/Europacity city quarter, 170 hectares in the Spree district, 360 hectares on the premises of former Tempelhof Airport, around 1,400 hectares of development space near the capital city's future BBI airport and another 450 hectares soon to be available at Tegel Airport – Project developers and investors are more than impressed with Berlin's huge offer of space.

At the MIPIM Real Estate Fair, Berlin's Senator for Urban Development Ingeborg Junge-Reyer and Senate Director of Building Regula Lüscher are advertising Berlin as a real estate attraction. MIPIM in Cannes, in the south of France, is one of the world's biggest real estate fairs. It will be held from 16 to 19 March 2010 and is a must for the sector's decision makers.

Senator Ingeborg Junge-Reyer: "It is vital for us to be present at MIPIM. Berlin is an international metropolis and must also market itself on an international scale. Compared to other cities, we have extensive space on offer for a vast range of real estate projects. Berlin, however, is not only an ideal location for large-scale projects, it also offers sufficient space for made-to-measure projects. We are addressing real estate developers and project sponsors in search of individual solutions. The abundance of space is one of Berlin's huge advantages and provides a perfect basis for unusual and innovative ideas for housing, shops, hotels and restaurants.

Together with other partners, Berlin will have its own booth at the fair under the auspices of the Senate Department for Urban Development. MIPIM visitors can find out about many different projects, such as the development of Tempelhofer Feld, future use of Tegel Airport and the new Heidestraße/Europacity quarter. Various discussion events and presentations will highlight the advantages which Berlin has to offer. Talks will also be possible with Berlin's Senator for Urban Development, the Senate Director of Building and representatives from the urban development administration.

Senator Ingeborg Junge-Reyer: "Investors will be particularly interested in what we have on offer. That's because Berlin is in an excellent position – especially in the current financial crisis. We not only have space and room for creative ideas, we can also boast so-called soft location factors: Berlin is a green city with attractive centres of learning and culture along with a vast range of shopping and leisure offers. These soft location factors are becoming increasingly important on the real estate market: The importance of the ecological lifecycle of a building has advanced to the forefront of public awareness and there is a growing demand for housing designed for several generations. We have been addressing these future-relevant topics for some time now in Berlin. We have extensive experience that can benefit both real estate developers and project sponsors."
